21 Jun Heartfelt Homecoming
In 1989, Shantay Henderson was working at CHOP and looking for volunteer work when she found the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. She liked the organization’s focus and spent a year as a Front Desk volunteer. Unfortunately, she couldn’t continue with the role due to her busy work schedule. Last year, Shantay stopped working, giving her an opportunity to rejoin the RMHC Philly volunteer team, helping at the front desk. Her caring
heart and desire to help others make her an excellent addition to the House community.
“I’ve always been a helper. I don’t know how to explain it, but I get something out of it too,” says Shantay. “My motto has always been to just jump in and help out. I just want everyone to be happy!”
Shantay’s warmth and kindness are matched by her reliability. She often jumps in to help cover shifts when other volunteers call out. Shantay’s favorite memory as a volunteer happened last year during a carnival. “There
was a shy little girl who didn’t want to participate,” she says. “I took time to engage with her, and eventually she opened up and played. It was so heartwarming and rewarding!”
