Maintenance Mechanic
Department: Operations
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Rotation between morning, afternoon, and evening shifts. Both weekday and weekend availability required.
Job Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for assisting with the operation and ongoing maintenance of the physical structure and grounds of the properties as assigned. This position will maintain and repair equipment, perform preventative maintenance checks and troubleshoot issues. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for handling guest requests and other work orders while exhibiting a high level of customer service.
The ability to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs in carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC is required.
Essential Duties:
- Maintain the interior and exterior of physical structure, and grounds of RMHC Philly properties in like-new condition
- Perform carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs as necessary and within ability
- Complete varying maintenance requests related to guest rooms, offices and public area spaces in a timely manner, including but not limited to:
- Changing out light bulbs
- Flooring repairs
- Touch up paint
- Minor furniture repair
- Tub caulking
- Tile repair
- Ice machines
- Refrigerators
- Commercial & residential kitchen and laundry equipment
- HVAC
- Immediate response to equipment breakdowns or other building issues to minimize downtime
- Follow all established safety procedures and regulations including proper use of personal protective equipment
- Contribute to maintaining an organized and clean shop
- Remain attentive and courteous in interactions with the guests, managers and all other employees
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in the hotel, housing, healthcare facility or general building maintenance environment
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics required
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
Competencies:
- Knowledge of machines, computers, tools and other equipment, including HVAC, electrical and plumbing
- Excellent time management skills and high level of working efficiently
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to understand and follow directions, guidelines and work objectives as set forth by the supervisor
- Ability to understand the hazards and precautionary procedures involved in working around commercial cleaning agents and various types of machinery
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to listen, understand and interpret the issues raised by guests and co-workers
- Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor
- Compliance with standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations
- Team player
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
