Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House (RMHC Philly) is seeking a Staff Accountant.  If you are a highly motivated accounting professional with a desire to work in a mission-centered organization, this position is for you!

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Staff Accountant’s primary focus will be on the completion of daily Accounts Receivable processing and reconciliation in a robust, donor driven environment. This position will help bridge the gap between the Development team and Accounting by staying informed of all donor intentions, assisting in accurately recording all receivables. The Staff Accountant will also be cross trained in other areas of the accounting department to better assist in daily operations and be positioned for growth opportunities.

Candidates must have demonstrated Accounts Receivable experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and understanding of financial statements.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day A/R processing and reconciliation to ensure timely receipt and accurate recording of funds received by the organization
  • Maintain and create A/R schedules
  • Ensure routine journal entries are prepared on time and accurately
  • Contact donors and follow up on financial pledges
  • Create and generate invoices to track and request expected incoming revenue
  • Create and maintain the daily cash log, compare to reconciliation schedule and review for correct postings
  • Create revenue journal entries for monthly-end close
  • Assist entering revenue into donor database as needed
  • Record In-Kind donations
  • Participate in Development meetings to gain knowledge of incoming revenue
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and create special reports as requested
  • Assists with preparation of year end external audit schedules as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Minimum two years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and understanding of financial statements
  • Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge software experience a plus
  • Grant accounting experience a plus

  • Must be willing and able to travel between RMHC Philadelphia locations and other regional locations using personal vehicle or alternative
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear.
  • Must be physically capable of carrying up to 15 lbs.
